Providence-based poet and artist, Sara Dager, asked me to produce a poster for the release party for her chapbook, Sick and Swell Socialites, a collection of short writings about celebrities and reptiles.
Within the context of Dager’s images–reptilian reflections and grotesque vanities–the design is an experiment in fauvist color mixing, with particular inspiration by Op Art works such as Richard Anuszkiewicz’s “Primary Hue.” Where simple primary and secondary colors combine, they produce the illusion of lurid shades, while elsewhere these hues are eerily but imperfectly mirrored.
